Kimberly Lenz is a Chicago native who came to Hampton Roads for a short stay. Fourteen years later, it looks like she's here for good and happy because of it.

Experience:

Kimberly is a freelance writer, having traded daily newspaper work for more variety a couple of years ago.

Kimberly began her writing career in newspapers at the same suburban Chicago weekly she delivered as a kid. The hook set, she worked at papers in suburban Chicago before spending a year as a staff writer at ChicagoParent Newsmagazine, where she won national awards for her work.

During the past 14 years here she's been an award-winning newspaper reporter at Tribune Company's Daily Press, and an adjunct professor at Christopher Newport University, where she taught newswriting and sections on the working press.

Education:

Kimberly is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.A. in English.

From Kimberly Lenz:

I'm your guide to the 33rd largest metro area in the whole U.S. of A. I'd ask for a moment of silence, but by then this fast-growing area probably would have moved up a few spaces.

Hampton Roads is a great place to live and explore. As a formerly superior Chicagoan, I never thought a place could measure up to the big city. Oh, the humility from being so wrong!

I write and/or choose most of the content with a few goals in mind.

I aim to guide you to the places you haven't yet found, and share your favorites. I want to answer questions about the region, and introduce you to some topics you might not have considered. I want this to be fun.

You bet I know that's a tall order. This area is huge, with 1.7 million people and about a three-hour drive between folks on the fringes. That's why I'll need you to be my partner.

Tell me what you'd like to see. Tell me what you can't find. Share your favorites with me, so I can pass along the good news to others. Let the adventure begin.
